Blackout Poetry / Lyrics #1

Blackout Poetry / Lyrics #1

WHAT

Create short poems or lyrics using the words written in an old book

YOU WILL NEED:

An old book, a pencil, a black felt tip pen, scissors, a tongue drum, some paper

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Choose a page (or two) from the book

2. Using a pencil, circle the words which speak to you

3. Circle other words to give context and form to your previous words

4. Once you are happy, use the black felt tip pen to black out the rest of the page. This should leave you with just your poem

5. Write out your poem / lyrics on a separate piece of paper if you want to

(Extra)

5. Write tongue drum numbers above each syllable (see "Tongue Drum Melodies").

6. Play the notes you've written above each word as if you were speaking / singing though the tongue drum.

7. Have a go at singing your words and melody out loud at the same time as playing them on your tongue drum
