2# Leaf Lines
#2 Leaf Lines
WHAT
A fun and relaxing plant inspired doodle that resembles patterns found in leaves.
YOU WILL NEED:
A fine black felt-tip pen (berol or similar), a small brush and water, cartridge paper (or your sketchbook)
INSTRUCTIONS:
PART ONE
Take a few moments to gather together the materials you will need. Clear a space on your table or desk. Take three deep breaths. In through the nose and out the mouth.
Draw a line connecting the top edge of your paper to the bottom edge. From the same starting point, draw another line that billows out to the right and sweeps in to join the first line about half way down. Repeat this billowing out to the left, making a half- leaf shape.
Fill this shape with a number of contour-like lines that echo the outer line.
Draw the other half of the leaf shape on the left of the line and repeat the contour process.
repeat steps 1 - 3 until you have a several ‘veined and leafed branches that fill your page.
Fill in areas between the created shapes to create a sense of background and to define the shapes.
PART TWO
Use water to soften some of the lines, to add shadow and to provide contrast with the contour line structure.
