WHAT

A lovely timeless pattern with freehand grids and lines

YOU WILL NEED:

A pen or pencil and a small square of paper or post-it note

INSTRUCTIONS:

There is no right or wrong here, we are interested in the journey and not just the destination.

  1. Firstly draw a freehand square on your paper leaving a small border

  2. Now draw four evenly spaced vertical lines to create five columns

  3. Draw four horizontal lines to create a grid

  4. In the top left square draw three or four evenly spaced vertical lines

  5. Now in chequerboard fashion leave the next square blank and then repeat instruction 4 in the next square. Repeat until you have vertical lines in every other square

  6. In the remaining blank squares add in three or four evenly spaced horizontal lines until the pattern is complete

  7. Sit back and enjoy your pattern

WHAT

A simple pattern built from hand drawn circles

YOU WILL NEED:

A pen or pencil and a small square of paper or post-it note

INSTRUCTIONS:

There is no right or wrong here, we are interested in the journey and not just the destination

  1. Firstly draw a freehand square on your paper leaving a small border

  2. Now draw a circle in the centre of your paper

  3. Draw a series of small circles surrounding the first one that you drew

  4. Continue to add circles that connect with previously drawn circles. Leave no gaps

  5. Repeat point 4 until your paper is full and the circles reach the border

  6. Revisit each circle and draw a smaller circle within each of them. Take care to play with the placement of each circle. Variation will create movement in the pattern.

  7. Sit back and enjoy your pattern
