Year Two
More warm up mark-making activities!
WAVES
WAVES
WHAT?
A swift warm up activity with a wave inspired outcome.
YOU WILL NEED:
A broad or fine water-based felt tip pen, a brush and a water pot.
INSTRUCTIONS:
There is no right or wrong here, we are interested in the journey and not just the destination.
Draw a straight line towards the bottom of your page - this works best in landscape orientation.
Starting at the beginning of the straight line draw a line above it with a few bumps or undulations in it, ending at the end of the first line.
Repeat with a third line, exaggerating the bumps from the line before, and ending once again at the end of line 1.
Continue adding lines that exaggerate the bumps in the previous line, always starting and ending at them same point.
Once the page is almost full, stop drawing and use a moist brush to release the ink in your lines, carefully flowing over the drawn lines.
FLOW
FLOW
WHAT?
Dots and lines to create a unique pattern.
YOU WILL NEED:
A broad and fine water-based felt tip pen, a brush and a water pot.
INSTRUCTIONS:
There is no right or wrong here, we are interested in the journey and not just the destination.
Start with your paper in landscape orientation. Using a fine pen draw 5 evenly spaced dots on one side of your sheet.
Draw 5 evenly spaced dots on the other side of your sheet of paper.
Starting with your pen on one of the dots, draw a line that joins with a dot on the other side of the page. This will be more interesting if you use undulating and looping lines.
Now start with your pen on another dot, and join it to a dot on the other side. Make your lines meander.
Repeat until all the dots are used.
Now shade in some of the shapes that were created by your lines using a broad pen.
Again with the broad pen draw a border or frame around your composition.
Use a moist brush to follow your ink lines and force the ink to bleed.
You may like to add water to the shaded areas to make a palette and then use the ink on your brush to paint further patterns within your work.
BOUNCE
BOUNCE
WHAT?
A bouncing line inside a rectangle or square.
YOU WILL NEED:
A broad and fine water-based felt tip pen, a brush and a water pot.
INSTRUCTIONS:
There is no right or wrong here, we are interested in the journey and not just the destination.
Start with your paper in landscape orientation. Using a fine pen drawn a large rectangle or square.
Draw a straight line that connects one line of the rectangle / square to another line.
As your line reaches its destination make it ricochet or bounce in another direction towards another side of the rectangle / square.
Repeat number 3 until you have a shape full of lines.
Now using a broad pen, add additional line patterns within the shapes you have created.
Use water and a brush the shade in areas of your shape and add tone and wash.
Sit back and enjoy your work.
